It is with great sadness we share the loss of a great man and mentor to many. Keith Wintersteen served on the SDYHA Board of Directors and was actively involved in putting together outdoor events for not only our youth but all youth in the community.

"He was a great teacher and friend, he could explain anything so anyone could understand it. He was EXTREMELY passionate about the outdoors and love teaching people. You could ask him anything. If he didn't know an answer to a question you had (which was rare) he could point you in the right direction or he would find it out himself and let you know. He was a great person to talk with if you needed a laugh or help with literally anything. He had great stories that could help anyone relate and feel welcomed." -Rachel Dather, SDYHA Match Support Specialist

We pray for comfort and peace for his family, co-workers at the Outdoor Campus West, and all who came to love him.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Black Hills SPOTLIGHT

Zach Tenhave, Campus Kids

Zach has been with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Black Hills since 2016. He has been a Campus Kids volunteer, helped the agency with outreach for fundraising, and has spent countless hours recruiting volunteers. Described as a “big kid”, he easily related to the Littles of Campus Kids. He often sat alongside the children to help them with homework, finish a project they were working on during Campus Kids or listened to them talk about their joys and worries.  He prioritized the betterment of the agency, always advocated for the Littles in need, and became a valuable team member at BBBSBH.  His advocacy, passion, determination, and friendship have left a legacy.

Zach, we will miss you more than we can ever tell you! Thank you for letting us be a part of your journey and for pouring into the lives and futures of the kids in our community. You changed lives! Things won’t be the same without you. You have a home here; any time you want to come back. We are incredibly proud of you and wish you the best of luck! â€“All of us at BBBS

“My Little Brother is bummed we aren't getting together right now but he understands and we talk on the phone often."

One-to-one mentoring is a simple, prevention-based strategy to help our youth become resilient despite the adversity they endure.

The need for one-to-one mentoring continues to rise and we need help supporting this growth.

For less than the cost of Netflix each month, you can help fight adversity and start securing a brighter future for the children in our community.

Will you help?

THIS is your call to action.
Are you a compassionate and dedicated leader who is willing to do whatever it takes to help change children’s lives for the better? We are expanding our Board of Directors and are looking for individuals that are passionate about strengthening leadership and governance. Will you be a defender of potential? Will you be a positive force for change for the children in our community? If so, email Nicole at execdir@bigmentors.com or call 343-1488.

The South Dakota Fraternal Order of Police Chapter 2 representatives, Big Brothers Big Sisters leadership team, and the Cops Fore Kids planning committee have decided it is in the best interest of everyone involved to cancel the Cops Fore Kids Open 2020.

We care about each and every one of you and want you to be able to focus on your health and safety. Just because we are canceling this year doesn't mean we've lost anything. We are simply pressing the "pause" button on the Cops Fore Kids Open. We look forward to a great event next year!

The work we do is possible because of the individuals and businesses who link arms with us to help defend the potential of our Littles.
